Types of Domestic Abuse

There are many different kinds of domestic abuse including emotional, physical, financial and digital. All forms are used by the perpetrator to exert power and control over their partner.

Abuser uses digital media to harass, control and manipulate you. Also known as online abuse, or technology facilitated abuse (TFA), digital abuse includes almost every kind of abuse that can happen offline.

Your abuser intentionally isolates you from your friends, family and network either by preventing contact or ruining the contact when it does happen by verbally or physically abusing you.

Your abuser uses their power and control over you to make you have sex or perform sexual acts with them. Your consent is not given.

Your abuser controls all the income coming into the house. You have to rely on him for everything and justify any money you need to spend.

Your abuser constantly undermines your self-esteem and confidence, leading you to believe you are stupid, or ‘a bad mother’, telling you that you’re going crazy or insane.

Your abuser inflicts or causes you intentional physical harm or injury. It's not just a black eye that counts...

Your abuser intimidates, isolates or degrades you through the use of threats of physical, emotional, financial, digital, and sexual abuse.
